Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, demons, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
